4-H Caring Hearts, Helping Hands Food Drive

Since 2021, New Hanover County 4–H has conducted the annual 4-H Caring Hearts, Helping Hands Food Drive community service project to provide assistance to families throughout central and eastern North Carolina.

Did You Know?
– Every day hunger disrupts the lives of 1 in 5 children in North Carolina.

More than 756,000 residents across central and eastern North Carolina go hungry everyday.

– In 2021, over 81 million meals were distributed to residents across the thirty-four counties, which comprise the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina regions.

– Between March and June 2021, roughly 4 out of 10 people visited food banks that had never received food assistance before the pandemic.

– In 2023, with help of our 4-H members and the local community the 4-H Food Drive brought in a total of 6,924lbs of food! Totaling approximately 5,770 meals for individuals in need around our region.

A total of 1,000 pounds of food were collected and donated to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC during New Hanover County 4-H’s “Caring HEARTS Helping HANDS” food drive.
