Collapse ▲Welcome to 2024 New Hanover County and beyond,
We are excited to announce the re-launch of the Therapeutic Horticulture Dialogue Circle for 2024!
Date: 3rd Saturday of Each Month
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Lewis Greenhouse, NHC Arboretum
Meetings: January 20th – November 16th
Purpose: Join us for an open, in-person resource dedicated to utilizing horticulture and nature to improve wellness. The Circle is open to everyone—no affiliation with Extension Master Gardener, Ability Garden, or NHC Arboretum program is required. These initial gatherings will be informal, focusing on building relationships and exploring ideas together.
What to Expect:
- Brainstorm Ideas: Share and explore creative ways to incorporate therapeutic horticulture into your life.
- Personal Experiences: Connect with others and share personal stories of healing through horticulture.
- Exchange Information: Learn about resources and tools to enhance your connection with nature.
January’s Meeting: A brief history of the NHC Therapeutic Horticulture program, introductions, discussion of future topics, ending with an optional tour (weather permitting).
April’s Meeting: Extension Master Gardener Kitty Bass shared how she used nature and meditation to help women survivors of trafficking. This passive use of nature can help us connect to ourselves and others as we build self-efficacy.
May’s Meeting: Discussion of the use of the Extension Master Gardener Intranet for communication within the New Hanover County group about therapeutic horticulture and available resources.
June’s Meeting: Discussion of effective ways to engage staff in participation of nature-based activities, how can facilitators encourage staff to continue the work after the session time is over? Look for a posting on the TH page sharing some lessons learned.
September through December: The Therapeutic Dialogue Circle will discontinue monthly meetings on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Instead will meet at the request of Extension Master Gardeners, with the topic, time and place of the meeting to be determined by the request. If you would like to request a TH Dialogue Circle meeting please contact Heather Kelejian, hlkeleji@ncsu.edu.”
Contact: For more information, feel free to reach out to Heather Kelejian at hlkeleji@ncsu.edu or 910-798-7682.
We look forward to developing a supportive and inclusive space, promoting the amazing work happening in New Hanover County and beyond.
