The Ability Garden is excited to announce we have a new part-time Program Assistant, Taylor Shuler. Taylor joins us with excellent experience working with various populations and a Masters in Recreational Therapy from Clemson University. He has been working to get our garden and the JC Roe Center and Lake Forest Academy planted for the fall season and welcoming the Transitions Program for Young Adults back to the Arboretum for the school year. Taylor’s skills are proving to be a perfect fit for our program and as he gets more settled in the role it will be exciting to see what new endeavors he undertakes.
We are also welcoming Kadence Baumgardner as a Public Health Intern for the fall. She has been a great help in assisting in the greenhouse and with various groups, including a short program with a focus on serving the homeless.
It is going to be a busy and exciting fall season as we work to more fully integrate our school programs into the daily activities of the students at their respective schools, create educational and fun experiences for our Transitions students, raise awareness about the wellness benefits of engaging with nature and develop educational programs for N.C. State Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers and the general public in therapeutic horticulture.
To support our programs, please remember and help spread the word about our 3rd Saturday Plant Sales, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lewis Greenhouse on the NHC Arboretum grounds. We do not have a sale in December.
