4-H Envirothon Club Wins 1st Place at Coastal Envirothon Contest
The 4-H Envirothon Club members competed in the Coastal Envirothon on March 14th at Cool Springs Environmental Education Center. The 4-H Envirothon Club team placed first in the Area Six division, advancing to the NC State Envirothon in April.
The competition team for 4-H Envirothon Club, Violetta Baillon, Alexis Wright, and Josephine Hudson, competed in areas of Wildlife, Soils, Forestry, Environmental Current Events, and Aquatic Ecology on the middle school level. Two alternates, Ian Jordan and Owen Baillon, participated in the resource areas for the competition as well. Led by 4-H club leaders Hannah Bell and Dietrich Blum.
North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation District host the event, providing middle and high school students the opportunity to showcase a variety of knowledge and skills in environmental studies.
New Hanover Soil and Water Conservation District would like to thank the club members, their parents and guardians, the coaches, New Hanover County 4-H, and the Arboretum for suppling this team with resources, study spaces, support, and encouragement that prepared them to succeed in this competition, thank you all.
