Two boys in a 4-H canoe. Girl painting arts and crafts

Your child will love canoeing on Lake Hazel, hiking, climbing the rock wall, swimming in our pool, riding horses, and learning archery at Betsy-Jeff Penn (BJP) 4-H Educational Center in Reidsville this summer!

New Hanover County 4-H  is attending BJP July 30th – August 4th, for youth ages 8-14 (at time of camp). Not only will your child have the best summer ever, but BJP provides one of the best values for residential summer camp in the state!

Available Camp Programs

Families have three options to choose from when attending BJP based upon your child’s age and interests:

Traditional Camp (8-12) – $525

Beginning with a ‘welcome to camp’ opening ceremony on Sunday and concluding with an awards ceremony on Friday, our six-day sleepaway summer camp program sends campers home with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime!

Adventurer Program (12-14) – $525

This special program for older campers focuses on developing outdoor living skills and includes a two-night on-site camp out on Tuesday and Wednesday night. In addition to regular residential camping activities, Adventure campers learn fire building, orienteering, outdoor cooking, tent set-up and have the opportunity to go down the zip-line at high ropes.

Trekker Program (12-14) – $575

Trekkers participate in an over-night, off-site camp-out and trip that includes rock climbing at Pilot Mountain State Park and canoeing on the Dan River, a low-class rapid river. Trekkers leave Wednesday morning, spend the day canoeing on the Dan, and then camp-out at Pilot Mountain, ready for rock-climbing on Thursday morning.

For a more detailed description of camp programs, visit Betsy-Jeff Penn’s website.
