TiLT Overview

To highlight our Teens in Leadership Training (TiLT) program, we’re spotlighting some of our current and former volunteers, learning about their involvement in the program, and seeing how their experience has continued to impact them. Brunswick County 4-H TiLT youth volunteer teaching program trains youth volunteers ages 13-18, to deliver in-school, after-school, and summer programs that teach healthy living, STEM, good stewardship, and environmental awareness of the resources in Brunswick County. See our 4-H Teens in Leadership Training page for more information about the program.

When did you serve in TiLT?

2011.

What is your favorite memory from serving as a TiLT volunteer?

My favorite memory was being able to travel different places and learn new life skills.

How did volunteering with TiLT help you when choosing a college or career path?

I learned a lot about what I was good at and what I was not so great at. I was able to try new things and know where I excelled!

What is one other way TiLT has helped you? (e.g., public speaking, making friends, learned something new, etc.)

Before TiLT, I was unable to stand in front of anyone and speak. Now I am able to stand up and lead!

One more question! Tell us a little bit about you, now! What are you doing and where are you? What are your future plans, etc…

I am 25, mom of a 3-year-old son, work driven, adventure loving, and can accomplish anything I want because of my experience in TILT. I was taught all the skills I needed to take on this crazy world. I even think my experiences in TILT [have helped] me to be a better mom. I love to lead and be in leader positions in every job I take on. And I am teaching my son to be brave and lead! In today’s world, we need more leaders. I hope to use my experience and help others stand up and lead! TILT also taught me in life when things don’t go as planned to laugh, adapt, and move on! I can’t tell you how much that has helped me in my everyday life. I’m so grateful for all the opportunity’s I was given.
