4-H Camp Provides Youth With More Than Memories

Campers will enjoy swimming and canoeing in beautiful Lake Hazel.

A week at one of our great North Carolina 4-H Camps can help children avoid “summer learning loss” while having all the fun that is built into our camps.

For generations, youth have attended North Carolina’s 4-H Camps for a week of canoeing, hiking and songs around the camp fire. A new study completed by Clemson University researchers and commissioned by the North Carolina Youth Camp Association (NCYCA), assessed parent perspectives on the developmental benefits of youth camp experiences. The study revealed that attending camp may yield more than fond memories of summertime.

According to the study, an overwhelming majority of parents (91%) associated camp involvement with school success, and this association was reflected in how camp prepares youth for life transitions, how camp reinforces life lessons learned at home, and how camp prepares youth for independent living. Your child can attend residential camp at the Betsy Jeff Penn 4-H Center in Reidsville, North Carolina July 9-14. Each of our NC 4-H Camps are members of the North Carolina Youth Camp Association and accredited by the American Camp Association.
