•  Feb 8th Club meeting from 4-5pm

• February 23rd Orienteering Class Sat. from 12-4pm at the Arboretum

• March 1st Hunter Safety Class Day Sat.  8-5:30pm at the Arboretum

• March 2nd Shooting at range 2-4pm

• March 8th Used Gear Sale at Halyburton park

• March 13th District Shooting sports competition

• March 15th Leave no trace 10-11am Halyburton Park

• March 29-30th Hunter Safety Class will be at  Halyburton  park from 9-3 both days!

• Tournament held September 20th 2008 at Millstone 4-H center

• Archery Class: September 28th 1:30-3:30, Free

April 4-H Shooting sports Adult Training  

Calling all adults interested in teaching/helping with the New Hanover County shooting sports

club!  There will be a training April!  I know this is short notice so get the form in today if you are interested!  Deadline is March 3rd.  The training will be held at the Millstone 4-H camp and is only $25!  Train in any of the following areas: archery, rifle, pistol, shotgun, hunting, orientating and muzzle loading.

Building Life Skills: 

Specific objectives for the program are to:

• Teach decision making, teamwork, self-dicipline, self-confidence, and problem solving;

• Promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior;

• Encourage an appreciation and understanding of natural resources;

• Develop leadership abilities;

• Build character and willingness to assume citizenship responsiblity;

• Furnish enjoyable, positive relationships with peers and adult instructors;

• Strengthen families through participation in lifelong recreational activities;

• Build awareness of related career opportunities.

Something for Everyone

The Shooting Sports curriculum uses the resources of the land-grant university and the time, talent, and dedication of Cooperative Extension agents and certified 4-H leaders, instructors, and trainers who instruct 4-H members in firearms safety and marksmanship. The shooting disciplines include archery, muzzle loading, pistol, rifle, shotgun and hunting. Each discipline is taught by a National or State Certified Instructor.

Healthy Competition

4-H members have opportunities to test their shooting, hunting, and sportsmanship skills in county, regional, state, and national competitions. In fact, they could ultimately set Olympic competition as their goal. There are seventeen Olympic shooting sports events, which continue to draw the third-greatest number of countries.
