Letter from the teachers 09/03/08:
Welcome to the 4-H beginning sewing class
We are so glad you decided to join our class or come back if you were with us last year!
GENERAL INFORMATION FOR YOUR CALENDAR
We will be meeting on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month, starting on September 23rd. The class runs from 4-6 pm. We are asking the girls to be as punctual and dedicated as possible. That would allow us to get everyone started at the same time and finish our projects in a timely manner. It takes time away from the girls who come to every class if we have to play 'catch-up'!
GENERAL INFO ABOUT THE CLASS
At the first meeting we will go over the basic operations of the sewing machine, such as threading, filling a bobbin and learning what to do when the thread jams! We will also do some practice sewing so all the girls will feel more at ease when we start our first project.
This year we would like the girls to help us compile our "Calendar of Events". Since 4-H is a service club we thought it would be a way to give back to the community by sewing several service projects throughout the year. So we have a lot going on that first class!!
SUPPLIES
Sewing Kit...please buy or bring from home!
*Pins
*Tape Measure
*Small Ruler
*2 pair of scissors: one small hand pair (very handy, but optional) and
one pair large enough to cut fabric.
*Mixed needles for hand sewing
*Thread marking pencil (the white chalk kind is great)
*Regular pencil
*Seam ripper
We do have a few sewing machines here at the Arboretum. But if your daughter has her own or you have one at home that she is familiar with she is welcome to bring it with her to class.
There will be a $10 fee per semester. That will enable us to buy an assortment of thread for the machines and extra sewing supplies to have on hand for the girls.
Since there are only two of us and we could have up to 10 girls, we would welcome any parents assistance if they have the time available.
WE'RE PLANNING TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN THIS YEAR AND BE PRODUCTIVE AT THE SAME TIME!!
